由于潜在的沙门氏菌污染，FDA已对数千万枚鸡蛋发出了最高风险级别的召回警告。
此前因多州出现感染病例，总部位于加州的August Egg Company于6月6日自愿召回超过2,000万枚鸡蛋，随后FDA在7月2日将此次召回定为了一级风险。沙门氏菌的症状通常在感染后12到72小时出现，持续4到7天不等。
典型症状包括腹泻、发烧和腹部痉挛。更严重的感染可能导致高烧、头痛、嗜睡、皮疹以及尿血。感染后在极少数情况下可能致命，每年约有450人死于沙门氏菌病。
这些鸡蛋于2月3日～5月15日期间在加州和内华达州销售，涉及的零售商包括Save Mart、Food Maxx、Lucky、Smart & Final、Safeway、Raleys、Food 4 Less和Ralphs，保质期在3月4日～6月4日之间。还有部分鸡蛋于2月3日～5月6日供应到加州、华盛顿州、内华达州、亚利桑那州、怀俄明州、新墨西哥州、内布拉斯加州、印第安纳州和伊利诺伊州的沃尔玛门店。
召回的鸡蛋装在纸质或塑料盒中，代码为P-6562或CA5330。截至6月5日，共有7个州79人感染沙门氏菌，其中21人住院，但尚无死亡病例。发病时间从2月24日～5月17日不等，有27人表示自己在生病前接触过鸡蛋。
